Legislative Advocacy: Scientific findings could support state or federal legislation (similar to the Inflation Reduction Act’s climate-health provisions) that funds ecological restoration as part of pandemic preparedness and antibiotic innovation.
Community-Level Implementation: Cities and nonprofits could integrate microbial biodiversity indicators into local restoration planning, turning rewilded parks and forests into outdoor laboratories for environmental and health education.
By grounding environmental restoration in measurable public-health benefits, research like this could reshape how we value nature—not only as something to protect, but as something to partner with in building a healthier society.
