Methodology

  1. Site Selection: Choose one or two rewilded sites (likely local New England rewilding/restoration zones) and nearby degraded controls.
     

  2. Biodiversity Survey: Collect data on plant, fungal, and microbial diversity (in collaboration with ecology and microbiology labs).
     

  3. Screening: Use existing literature and small-scale assays (if feasible with lab partners) to identify species associated with antimicrobial, antiviral, or anti-inflammatory properties.
     

  4. Comparative Analysis: Determine whether species richness and medicinal potential are higher in rewilded vs. degraded ecosystems.
